Professor Bonefeld has 20 years of experience as a researcher at University of Copenhagen, focusing especially on immunological components of contact allergy, such as nickel, fragrance and hair dye allergy.

As group leader in the T Cell Biology and Skin Inflammation group at the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center (SIC) and Head of the Graduate Programme in Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Professor Bonefeld has thorough experience in educating and training the next generation of research talent in immunology. She further leads a number of interdisciplinary research collaborations nationally and internationally, including as vice chairman of the CAG Allergy and as co-founder of the CARGO international research group.

Professor Bonefeld takes over the position from Professor Niels Ødum who has made a valuable contribution to get the center up and running since the inauguration in February. Professor Ødum continues his research activities as professor at SIC.

“A special thank must be given to Professor Niels Ødum, who has made an outstanding effort. Professor Ødum has now decided to step down as acting Executive Director of SIC. Of course, I am sorry for his decision, but I have a great understanding that he will instead devote himself to the exciting research and many other tasks at SIC", says Dean Ulla Wewer.

The recruitment process to find a permanent Executive Director of SIC has been initiated.
